Motivation and Creativity

One of the challenges in the classroom today is to motivate our students and create a love of learning which will last their lifetime. Web 2.0 tools are giving teachers new options to increase motivation along with creativity. In the techLearning article, Web 2.0 Tools Motivate Student Creativity, Cory Plough describes how Web 2.0 encourages creativity and engages students in his classroom. Since his students now share their projects with the world instead of only their classmates, Plough’s students are exhibiting more creativity in their projects. He lists several Web 2.0 tools which you will want to check out.

Mindy,
I agree that motivating our students is one of the key elements in education. I have the students test the water quality of the Chicago River in my Biology class. In research to make the experience more meaningful and interactive, I found a website where students can publish their finding. This site allows the studnets to share their data and compare to see the water qualities of the rivers around the country. I am going to look into this for next year.

I think that we have known for a long time to power of authentic audiences to engage and encourage students. These new tools open up so much more of the web and gives the students access to more people.
However, as illustrated by the school blog closure in Australia , the first reaction of a school might be to close down these projects if even if there has not been anything inappropriate.
