Common Craft and Twitter

In an earlier post, I talked about what a fan I was of the Common Craft Show created by Lee and Sachi LeFever. Here is how they describe their work:
We use a simple format and real-world stories to make sense of complex ideas.
Popular videos that are viewed deal with RSS in Plain English, Wikis in Plain English, and Blogs in Plain English. They are short, to the point, and easy to understand. What more could you ask for!
Their newest feature deals with Twitter and of course is called Twitter in Plain English. I don’t think that Twitter fits into my educational life right now; maybe more in my family life. But it is certainly being talked about and looked at in the tech world.

I really liked this, too! I often have trouble explaining the value of new technologies to others. This would be a wonderful site to direct them to. I think I will send my father-in-law to this site, as he likes to think he is up on all the latest technology. He pronounced wifi as “wiffy” the other day, though, so I think he has some more work to do!
I recently found out about Twitter and think this will be a great resource for our students and their research questions. Doing reference would become more proactive as we’d be available for students who are not in the library and can’t use a phone (they’re at work, in a class [hopefully they won't use this to answer quiz or test questions], in a car [hopefully not driving], etc.). On the other hand, I have just learned from my daughter that I should be using GMail more often because it’s extremely easy to text back and forth. I’d really have to experiment with both to see which suits my personal and library life best.
By the way, I really like using Wiffy for wifi as I use Earl for URL. That’s it for now.
